O-Lana was from the Outer Rim world of Kegan, a world where the government preferred isolation, and thus forced it upon its citizens. The rulers of Kegan were deeply concerned with a number of prophecies, which their seers had foreseen. One of them involved the Jedi Knights, and that their arrival on Kegan would be the start of disastrous events. Nonetheless, eventually O-Lana was born, and it was discovered that she was strong in the Force. Secretly, without the knowledge of the Kegan rulers, her parents contacted the Jedi on Coruscant.

The Jedi Council sent Jedi Masters Qui-Gon Jinn and Adi Gallia to Kegan to determine O-Lana's Force sensitivity. However, O-Lana's existence and her Force sensitivity also did not escape those on Kegan who wished to remain outside the galactic arena. Some of those included zealots, who, in their extremism kidnapped O-Lana and destroyed all records of her birth and of her existence. However, it was the Padawans of the two Masters sent to Kegan that eventually rescued her. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Siri Tachi discovered where the child was being hidden and were successful in rescuing her. But that is not all the Jedi accomplished on Kegan.

O-Lana's birth invited the Jedi Knights who showed the people of Kegan a larger society than their own, where many worlds live in peace and prosperity, and after seeing this, the citizens of Kegan wish to join that galactic community. Overthrowing their current rulers, the Keganite rulers and established a new government, one that petitioned to and joined the Old Republic. As for O-Lana, she was taken to the Jedi Temple to begin her training, and grew up there to one day become a Jedi Knight.
